Orbost and District Innovation Network November Event

The Orbost and District Innovation Network held its second event on Thursday 10th November at the Orbost Golf Club. nbn Local sponsored the evening and delivered an informative presentation about the latest in digital solutions for business and community in the region. With 50 attendees representing business, government, academia and community coming along on a beautiful spring evening with catering supplied by Cozy Café a relaxed networking session was enjoyed by all.

Nbn Local Gippsland representatives Paul Johnson, Alex Aeschlimann and Rohan Lace covered off a range of technical topics including the difference between fibre to the premises, fibre to the node, fixed wireless and satellite technologies. The audience asked some interesting questions of the nbn Local team and community groups, local business owners and community members were given some food for thought on their future internet opportunities.

Tim Cotter provided an update on the Future of Orbost and District project with the innovation proposals for a National Seeds Institute, Future Forest Management and Agricultural Innovation starting to take shape.

Local dairy farming innovator Alistair Steele provided an insight into his robotic dairy operation and was candid with the audience about his desire to spend more time on pasture management and animal welfare rather than spending 6 hours a day putting cups onto cows teats.
